Personally, I believe that the Order by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, in favour of the Old 200, 500 and 1000 Naira Notes to stay in use for now, represents the interest of more than Majority of Nigerians.
Seeing that the most recent February 10th 2023 time limit for usage of the aforementioned notes by the Central Bank Of Nigeria, is from every point of logic, INCONSIDERATE and VOID OF HUMAN FACE; especially taking into consideration the ACUTE SHORTAGE OF THE NEW NOTES, GREAT DISTRESS ON THE POPULACE, HUGE FINANCIAL LOSSES IN MOST PRIVATE BUSINESSES OF NIGERIANS, and so on, I cannot help but commend the order of the Supreme Court, while STILL EXPECTING that they shall give a more FAR-REACHING ORDER, after the coming hearing, come 15th February 2023, that would ameliorate the harsh suffering of the Nigerian People.
I cannot help but also commend the the governors of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara States for their lawsuit which brought about the court order; and even the different lawsuit by the governor of Niger State. The more influential Nigerians, especially Government Officers take actions like that of the aforementioned governors, in defence of their people, the better Nigeria will become.
It is appalling though that many Banks across the country are disobeying the Supreme Court Order by refusing to collect the old notes, even when they have not given the people anything close to sufficient new notes; a thing that have directly affected citizens’ reception of the old notes and have rendered many stranded, EVEN TO THE POINT OF SOME HOSPITALS REFUSING TO TREAT PATIENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE NEW NOTES TO PAY WITH. Some of these, I personally witnessed in Enugu, where I reside.
I hope the Humane Angle taken by the Supreme Court gets enforced Nationwide, even as some states have started firing SANCTIONS on Banks that refuse to obey the Order of the Supreme Court.
